Skincare for 30-somethings

By age 30, collagen is lost at 1% to 2% each year. In addition to losing this firming protein, the elastin responsible for the skin’s “bounce-back” also erodes, along with moisturizing hyaluronic acid (HA). These changes cause the skin to feel dry and look “thirsty.” You may notice that once-defined areas look saggy and less contoured. Fine lines look more pronounced, and wrinkles formerly seen when making a facial expression now tend to stick around all the time – even when your face is resting. Solutions to stop or reverse aging and to protect your changing skin include:

  • A medical-grade skincare routine — You likely established a healthy regimen in your 20s. However, the products that worked in your 20s may not work as well for your current skin needs.   • Microcurrent Facials – Described as “next-generation” facials, you can get these treatments that strengthen and build facial muscle at our office today. Patient FAQ’s

What are the biggest threats to my 30-something skin?

By the time you reach your 30s, the process of collagen loss is in full swing. Collagen may be lost at a rate of at least 10% each decade. This process usually starts in the mid-20s. Degraded collagen can make areas of your face look less defined, and folds or wrinkles may be more noticeable. Signs of sun damage are also showing up on the skin in the form of freckles, brown spots, broken capillaries, and more.

Should my skincare change?

We recommend adding a few products to your skincare routine. These products include Skin Restoration, a skin brightener that evens out discolored areas. Our Stem Cell Serum also helps to replenish the collagen that is lost. Think of how the products you used as a teen may not have worked well in your 20s. The same notion applies as you enter your 30s. Skincare products should keep pace with your evolving needs.

Are there therapies to increase collagen production in the skin?

Yes, we have many such treatments! Everything from lasers to fillers can be used to encourage the renewal of collagen that naturally slows down as we age. Are fillers and Botox® the same?

We understand there is some confusion about these treatments because both are injectable. However, fillers work differently than Botox®, which is a type of neuromodulator. Fillers are most appropriate to “fill in” areas with sustained volume loss. In your 30s, you may notice depressions around your nose and mouth, the beginning of jowls, tear troughs that make you look old and tired, and your cheeks no longer look as chiseled. We can augment and lift these areas with specially formulated fillers. Botox® is specifically made for expression lines. It relaxes the muscles responsible for crow’s feet and frown lines.

Should Botox® be a part of my prevention program?

What should I look for in sunscreen?
