Warm up to heat therapy! FAQs about this modern infrared twist on the traditional sauna
As a medical spa, we fuel our patients’ sustained health and well-being. Additionally, Pua Manu MedSpa applies both traditional therapies and advanced technologies to bring out the best in your skin and self. Infrared sauna or heat therapy embodies this blend of conventional or time-tested techniques and state-of-the-art technological capabilities at our center in Kapolei, Hawaii.
What is an infrared sauna?
The sauna tradition can be traced back to ancient times and is still alive and well in many countries. Today’s infrared saunas are a therapeutic twist on this time-honored tradition. Instead of using steam or flame-stoked heat, our sauna contains built-in infrared lamps and uses electromagnetism to generate warmth. This modern alternative allows our patients to derive many health benefits comfortably and safely (without the heat associated with a traditional sauna.
What makes these saunas different from their older counterparts?
An infrared sauna produces focused warmth that penetrates directly into the skin. The traditional sauna, however, boosts the temperature within the entire space. Additionally, the latter sauna type usually reaches and sustains temperatures of 150 to 195 degrees! The former infrared sauna option minimizes such heat, with temps ranging between a comparatively low 110 to 135 degrees.
How can this service help me?
The heat derived from infrared sauna technology is incredibly therapeutic. Are your muscles sore and painful? Your body’s response to the heat causes the blood vessels to widen. As blood flow is increased, it can help to accelerate muscle recovery following an injury or intense workout. In need of a little self-care? Infrared sauna therapy is here to help! The warmth derived from the sauna helps to ease anxiety, fight depression and stress, and overall supports mental and emotional health. You may find you sleep more soundly after a sauna session, too! This therapy has even been linked to improved heart health and immune system function. So, you may find yourself experiencing fewer colds and illnesses when incorporating sauna therapy into your healthy lifestyle and routine.
What can I expect from heat therapy at Pua Manu MedSpa?
We will review everything to expect at each step in the process in greater detail. However, we generally like to start our patients off slow. That means applying heat that is no more than around 110 degrees and for no longer than 10 minutes. From there, we can gauge and track how you feel to determine the next steps. A good rule of thumb is for even those seasoned sauna enthusiasts to keep each session to no longer than 30 minutes at a time and no more than four times a week. With our professional management and guidance, you can derive considerable results and improvements in your overall health without stressing your body and potentially dehydrating yourself. Your safety and comfort is our priority.
