What is ProFractional™?
ProFractional™ is an advanced laser treatment developed by Sciton® that rejuvenates the skin. This unique laser resurfaces the skin and promotes collagen, and it does so in a gentle manner (especially when compared to older, conventional CO2 lasers).
How does ProFractional™ work?
As a fractional laser, ProFractional™ is designed to treat only a fraction of the skin at a time. In turn, it leaves the surrounding tissues untreated and intact. This process promotes rapid and predictable healing. Unlike traditional “full-field” laser-assisted resurfacing techniques, ProFractional™ does not remove the full surface area at the treatment sites. Additionally, ProFractional™ is known to be highly effective because it treats the skin precisely by creating microscopic columns or channels. These channels trigger tissue repair and collagen production, resulting in fresher, younger-looking skin and improved overall skin quality.
How do you use ProFractional™?
Due to its gentle and precise nature, ProFractional™ is a perfect complement for many clients’ skin care routines. It is ideal for all skin types and a variety of skin concerns, including:
- Fine lines
- Collagen production
- Wrinkles
- Dark spots and other signs of sun damage
- Melasma
- Acne scars
- Dull skin
- Rough, uneven texture
What is treatment like?
ProFractional™ is designed to minimize heat. So, comfort is supported, and the risk of damage associated with earlier-generation systems is avoided. Most only experience minor discomfort with a topical anesthetic. As the energy is delivered to numbed skin, treatment is very tolerable. Afterward, you may experience some warmth at the treatment sites for around 30 to 60 minutes (depending on the depth of treatment – ProFractional™ is highly customizable). There may be an intense burning sensation for 2 to 3 days post-treatment. A mix of numbing cream and Aquaphor® is provided for comfort while healing. To minimize this temporary burning sensation, we recommend applying ice packs and cold mist throughout the day.
How many treatments are needed?
While results are noticeable after just one treatment, for the best results, you may wish to undergo a series of between two and four initial treatment sessions.
How do I care for my skin after treatment?
Many of our clients appreciate how easily ProFractional™ fits into their lives! There is no heavy and time-intensive after-care – they can enjoy their usual activities within a few days after treatment. Of course, how your skin heals depends on the intensity of treatment and how well you adhere to instructions tailored to your specific needs and characteristics. In general:
- Moisturize well and often with fragrance-free products.
- Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours post-treatment.
- Avoid direct sunlight.
- Be diligent about using and reapplying sunscreen and other sun protection measures.
- Use numbing cream, Aquaphor, ice packs, and cold mist to as needed to help with the burning sensation.
When and what results can I expect?
The full tightening and smoothing effect is seen after the healing process is complete. Usually, improvements in skin imperfections are seen between three and five days after treatment. Because it triggers a wound-healing and collagen-remodeling response, your skin’s radiance and health will continue to improve for up to 6 months afterward. With continued semi-annual or annual maintenance, you can enjoy these results for years! Just be sure to take good care of your skin and yourself.
